Message to GREC Families

Message to Families

Dear Granite Ridge Families,

We hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe, healthy, and well. It’s hard to believe that we are almost eight weeks into Emergency Remote Learning. Everyone at the school is really missing their students but are happy that we are able to stay virtually connected with you all. With the announcement this week, that schools will remain closed to students to the end of the school year, we wanted to reach out to say that you are in our thoughts.

While online learning is not something any of us anticipated this year, we take heart in knowing that this is something that we are all navigating together as a school community. Being able to see students communicate with their friends and teachers in their Google Classrooms and virtual learning spaces has been wonderful, and we encourage students to continue reaching out to staff and to one another. Connections with friends and continuation of learning are important and want our students to feel connected and that they belong all while engaging in our online school community.

Speaking of our school community, we have had to make many adjustments and it is certainly not business as usual, but we are finding all sorts of creative ways to keep families connected with our Granite Ridge Community! Our virtual Kilometer Krush in elementary and our GREC challenge in secondary are great ways for students to share with one another and keep their strong connections with one another. Teachers continue to create opportunities for students, including virtual video chats with classmates or groups, video conferencing with students and families and phone calls home. We are also open to feedback and suggestions from you as to how we can continue to improve these efforts as we have a mandate to move forward with virtual learning.

Lastly, we want to recognize that our annual year-end celebrations like Graduations and awards will be very different this year. As we do every year, we are now planning how to celebrate our students’ success and mark these very important milestones. At this time, no official details have been put in place, as we are awaiting information from the Health Unit as to what types of celebrations will be permitted due to the safety restrictions regarding Covid19.

We may not know what the coming school year will bring but, rest assured, we will move forward with your well-being at the center of our decision making. We will get through this together, and together we will forge a new path ahead. Again, we hope that you are well and staying safe and healthy.

Miss you all.

Ms. Yanch & Ms. Stevens
